Camusdarach Beach and Beyond.

Start. Glenancross.

Route. Glenancross - Camusdarach Beach - Rubha Da Chuain - Camas Rubha a' Mhurain - Lon Liath - Camas Rubha a' Mhurain - Rubha Da Chuain - Camusdarach Beach - Glenancross.

Notes. The silver sands of Morar, a celebrated series of beautiful beaches which pepper the coast line between Arisaig and Morar. Rocky headland after rocky headland linked by arcs of white glistening sand, turquoise sea and stunning vistas to the islands of Eigg. Rum and Skye. Wonderful seascapes to feast the eye on for the complete walk, and on a day like today wavelets lapping at the soles of our boots on this short wander through paradise on the west coast of Scotland.

Our day started at our holiday cottage in Glenancross, yours should start at the beach car park a hundred yards from our front door. After crossing the quiet road we passed through the car park, a wooden foot-bridge guided us across the burn before we turned right. The burn banks lined with alder and birch, rowan, ash and hawthorn ushered us to the first of several beautiful beaches. Camusdarach Beach, or if you're local, Hero Beach as the beach scenes of the cult film Local Hero were filmed here. This staggering arc of white sand backed by dunes played host to around ten sun worshippers, the locals claimed that was crowded.

On we idly wandered traversing beach after beach, rocky headland after rocky headland, we passed a rusty roofed boat house, the path briefly cut through a cleft in the rocks before winding through woodland of birch, oak and rowan, ejecting us onto yet another arc of white sand. On reaching Traig Golf Club we grabbed a bite to eat before slowly re-tracing our steps.

View taken across Camusdarach Beach to Beinn an Achaidh Mhoir.

Just sitting daring each other to go for a dip, looking to the islands of Eigg and Rum.

Another beautiful stretch of white sand, seen over Rubha Da Chuain the small isles of Eigg and Rum.

Shhhhh, I think we should keep this a secret.

Reaching across the skyline, seen across the Sound of Sleat the Isle of Skye.

Another delightful strand, this time with views down the coast to the south.

Camas a Daraich looking to Skye and the mighty Cullin Hills.

Change of scenery, a redundant boat house passed en route.

After the boat house the path ushered us through this cleft in the headland, depositing us on another arc of white sand.

Tiny bays and rocky headlands stretch down the coast, and we have two people proving we're getting nearer to the coast road.

Eigg and Rum as seen from the beach behind Traigh House.

Lets be honest it doesn't get much better than this.

Looking towards Traig Golf Course.

Looking north, if any of the beaches are busy it will be this one, the white building to the far right is Traigh Farm it marks the point the road meets the coast.

Across the horizon, Eigg and Rum, they do dominate lots of the views today.

Back at the boat house looking to Skye.

Beinn an Achaidh Mhoir seen over the silver sands of Morar.
